Buying School Books!

Postby Help Me 2 Parent » Thu Jun 17, 2010 9:10 am

School’s out!
Well isn’t it wonderful! The secondary schools are on holidays, the leaving and certificate exams will be over in a few weeks and the primary schools will also get their holidays. Happy days! No more uniforms, homework, lunches, early mornings and so on for the next few months. We can look forward to relaxing in the evenings without supervising homework and driving to the usual round of after school activities! They take summer off, giving us, the parents, the summer off too!

But wait – don’t get too relaxed! September will be upon us in no time and before then we have to get the uniforms and books organised for the first day back at school! The uniforms aren’t so bad but personally, I find the whole process of buying the books an exercise that was designed by a group of very cruel adults to test the patience, stamina and finances of an average parent! Every year, the chore of buying the school books drives most parents crazy. You know the scene – first of all, every school book shop seems to have a queue. You wait in the queue, feel a sense of elation as it is ‘your turn’ and then you hand over the list thinking happily – “ah that’s it now, I will go home now with all the books and take the rest of the day easy”. Alas, that is rarely the case. Either the shop doesn’t stock that book or they do but they are ‘just out of stock’! They are expecting it in next week so ‘will you come back then?’ ( but you can’t skip the queue – you have to go through the process again).

I could go on moaning about this painful process but instead, I am offering you the perfect solution. The school support website, http://www.SchoolDays.ie have just opened their on-line shop for all your back to school needs. The site is very easy to use, organises books by subject, publisher and much more. Visit their site to place your back to school orders while you sit back and sip a coffee, or if the weather is as promising as they say, sip a long cold drink while SchoolDays do the work!
