The Power Within You - Believe and you will achieve…..
Do you
ever wonder why some people seem to “have it all” and
others struggle all the time. As an adult or a child we
see others in our peer group do better than us. Is there
anything that can be done or is it just
fate?
Everybody has the power within themselves to achieve whatever
they desire. Our minds are a powerful tool that when put to
good use can bring us happiness, success and whatever we
desire. So how do we use that “power within
us”…..
The mind has two parts, the conscious and the subconscious. It
can be compared to an iceberg, what’s above the water is the
conscious mind (about 10%) and what’s below the water is the
subconscious mind. The conscious mind carries out instructions
given to it by the subconsious mind, we are not even aware of
this happening. Every action that the conscious mind performs
has originated in the subconsious
mind.
When you are learning to drive a car, there are many actions to
take. You need to push the pedals, change gear, watch the
rearview mirror etc. This can be challenging and requires a lot
of conscious attention. Once you learn to drive however, it
becomes natural to you. The constant repetition of changing
gears, moving feet etc. has been repeated so much that the
subconscious mind lets you carry it out without you even
thinking about it consciously.
A baby learning to walk has had no influence to make them
believe that they can’t achieve. They get up to walk, fall
down, get up again, fall down, up again until they finally
walk. They don’t fall down the first time and say “I can’t do
this”….when children are doing exams etc. if they continually
say that they can’t do it, give them this example so that they
can start to think differently about
it.
People who are successful believe that they are capable of success. They
plant the seed for the goal they wish to achieve in the
subconscious mind and feed that seed by repeating the thoughts,
visualising the end result and feeling the
success.
Positive and negative thoughts and feelings both impact on the
way we act. If we have negative thoughts about something, - I
can’t do this, they won’t like me etc. then this is the seed
we’re planting in the subconscious mind and this is the way we
will react. Our body language, talk etc. will produce a
negative result.
So how can we plant a seed of success? We’ve already discovered
that the subconscious mind is very powerful. It shapes our
behaviour, our emotions, our thoughts.
If we create a positive thought and really visualise it
happening, the subconscious mind will carry it out.
As an example, if you want to lose weight, focus on what shape
you want to be, the size you want to be, picture yourself slim
etc. This is more effective than telling the mind to LOSE
weight as we don’t like the idea of losing anything,
unconsciously, it feels like its negative. Find an old photo of
when you were at your desired weight and put it in a place that
you can see it everyday. Remember how good you felt at that
time, bring those feelings up and really feel it….believe that
it can happen again. Create an image in your mind and replay
the image time and again. You will find that the subconscious
mind will carry out the instruction and you will start to lose
weight. Opportunities for weight loss will flow to you, you may
see a new weight loss program that you hadn’t noticed before,
in the supermarket you find yourself suddenly in “the healthy
eating” aisle, a friend suggests you join a gym or go walking.
When these things come to you, act upon them. The subconscious
mind has instructed the conscious mind to send them to you to
help you achieve your goal…..
This article gives you an overview of how you have the power
within you to achieve what you want in your life. Never
underestimate the power of your mind. Whether you plant a
negative thought or a positive one, the mind will ensure that
this will be the result. Whatever you want to achieve in your
life, set the goal, visualise yourself achieving it and repeat
the good positive thoughts constantly.
To quote Henry Ford:
“Whether you believe you can, or believe you
can’t – you
are right”
