Help! Can't Get Everything on Santa's
List
This year, we are all have to tighten our financial belts and be very careful of our spending. For financial or any
number of reasons, you may not be able to get some of the items on your child’s letter to Santa. Often the most
popular toys are sold out. Perhaps the toy is not available? Maybe it is too expensive for your
budget. How do you avoid tears on Christmas morning? The best way to do this is to get Santa to write to your
child and leave the letter a day or two before Christmas. The advantage of leaving the letter a few days before
Christmas is that your child will not be disappointed on Christmas morning as they will have had time to adjust.
Santa can explain why he couldn’t get a particular gift for various reasons, for example:
• The elves were too busy and couldn’t make everything
• Too many boys/girls wanted this and he ran out of stock
• He wasn’t able to get all the parts to make it but will try to make it later & if they still want it, they
can list it next year
The reasons can be made up to suit why the present is not there – it is up to you.
Make sure to include a note on how impressed he is with what a good boy/girl they have been and that he will
make it up to them next year. If you can quote something specific, for example, "I really liked how you helped
you little brother/sister to tidy up their toys last week" that will really make your child feel positive and
take some of the focus off not getting the toy while placing focus on how well they behaved. Don't get too
stressed or worried about not being able to get everything, when your child sees the other presents under the
tree the excitement will be enough to take their attention off what is missing!
